Back on the Menu

I am happy to report that tomatoes are back on the menu. I am now down to one food aversion.... peanut butter. But even that doesn't sound so bad anymore. Heck, after this weekend I am happy just to be eating at all. Thank heaven for Sloppy Joe and Ravioli, they welcomed me back into the tomato world with open vines and I am ecstatic.

hyper-emesis

It only happens in 1% of pregnancies, well call me an over-achiever, but I got it this past week and it landed me in the ER for about 4 1/2 hours on Saturday morning. Before I go any farther let me assure you that baby and I are doing fine. For some reason I just couldn't keep anything, not a cracker or a sip of gatorade down starting Thursday night and by Saturday morning I was so dehydrated and miserable I headed to the ER. They loaded me up with all sorts of fluids through an IV of course, ouch needles stink!!! By the end of the first bag I was feeling better and now I feel pretty much back to normal. Well pregnant normal not normal normal.

Now all the details out of the way, the ER is a fascinating place. It really is the human drama as they claim on TLC. It was pretty empty when we got there, but by the time we left the place was filled. As we were getting checked in a woman was yelling something about getting a gown, she was later escorted off the premises by security. While I was in a room some crazy woman was wheeled by screaming something in Spanish accompanied by two policemen and hospital security. There were two little soccer boys with broken arms. And there I was hooked to an IV watching it all go by the door.

It was good to be home needless to say and recovered from vomathon 2005. I hope this is the last hospital visit till March 19th.

Buttons? Who needs buttons?

I caved in and finally bought some maternity pants and let me tell you I can't believe every women doesn't wear them all the time. They are the most comfortable things on earth. No buttons, no zippers just a roll top stretchy band at the waist. Yeah, they may not be the most attractive things, but who cares, oh the comfort. :)

Don't worry, if I don't give them up after the baby comes you have my permission to call Stacy and Clinton on the "What Not To Wear" show. But for now, I am elated to find something comfortable for us pregnant girls.

Om.... My quads.... My quads..... Om

Ingrid, Lil' bean and I went to our first prenatal yoga class this weekend. It was a great class and I really liked the instructor and the studio. It was Kundalini yoga which tends to be a bit on the odd side, but it wasn't too out there for me and I really had a good experience. Today though I am so sore. Granted I have been a pile of goo for the last few months, but can I really be that out of shape? Sad thing is it was the easiest, gentlest yoga class I had ever been to as well. I was shocked at how hard it was to go down the stairs this morning. I would have just sat down and given up, but I knew that standing up again would be even more painful in the long run so I lumbered down the rest of the way and made it to work. Owieee. I sure hope next week is better.

2nd Trimester Here we come

It's a big milestone for Lil' Bean today. We have officially entered the 2nd trimester. I should be feeling pretty much like my old self again soon. I still have the nausea, but my energy is definitely returning (I was able to stay up till 9 last night) and food isn't so repulsive anymore. I have had my first few days of heartburn and indigestion, but it seems bearable at this point.

As for Lil Bean (I am feeling more like he is a she this week, so I am making a gender change in the Blog, we'll officially know in 5 weeks) she is now the size of a Jumbo Shrimp, 3 inches long and weighs one gram. All the major parts are done forming. Her fingerprints and teeth buds show up his week.

Tomorrow I am going to go to a new prenatal yoga class with Ingrid and her little belly passenger. It should be fun, but I am a little worried I will get sick in class. I guess they are probably used to it seeing as it is a prenatal class.

Heartbeat

We just got back from the doctor and everything looks great. We heard the heartbeat and it was pounding away at super sonic speed. The baby is now about 2 inches long and the size of a lime. We are just entering the 2nd trimester now so my energy should increase and the morning sickness should fade away. Go Little Bean Go!!!!!

It's good to be home

We are back from a fun but exhausting trip to New York. The wedding shoot went well. The location was amazing. It was on the water underneath a bridge with the whole skyline of Manhattan in the background at sunset. Gorgeous. The footage looked pretty good too, aside from the aggressive NY photographers who kept stepping in front of cameras during key moments.

As for our sightseeing in the Big Apple, we really took it all in. Our hotel was right next to time square and Rockefeller center. We wandered around and found lots of landmarks just around the corner from us. We took a few bus tours and went to a Broadway show (Fiddler on the Roof). And Greg and Sienna were in NY the same week and we met up with them and went to the top of the Empire State Building. It was a great time.

As for me and Lil' Bean we did ok. I made it through the flight to New York, but as soon as we hit the ground and started the longest taxi in history to the terminal, I greeted New York with an airsick bag attached to my face. It was pretty awful. Blek... Luckily that was the worst moment, the rest of the trip I was only mildly nauseated. And don't worry, I got my cheescake. It was so good too. I was dreading the flight home though the whole trip, but it went well and I made it without further incident. I did get attacked by the hotel bed in NY. I have a nice gash in my leg and quite an impressive bruise as a souvenir. I haven't had a good bruise like this since I was playing hockey and kickboxing. It is oh so lovely. At least it got us a free car ride to the airport. The hotel manager was really nice and took good care of us after my boo-boo.

I am getting back on the schedule too and am still hoping the Blekiness will fade away sooner than later. We have an appointment with the OB tomorrow to check things out. We should be able to hear the heart beat.

I may be jinxing it.....

But.... I am starting to feel better. This week has been a pretty good one. I got a little ill yesterday when I answered the call of the burritto. I have been absolutely appalled by tortillas and Mexican food for the last 3 weeks, but yesterday in the commissary it was calling my name. It was sooooo good, and I mowed it down in about 30 seconds. I ate too much too fast and it was too rich. A bad combination when you are just starting to get over morning sickness. So I think it was too much too soon. I am definitely feeling better, but I am going to have to ease into eating like a normal person I think.

Tomorrow we head for the Big Apple to shoot a wedding for a co-worker. It should be lots of fun and a bit less work than the last 12 hour wedding we did a few weeks ago. Plus we get a bonus trip to New York as well. I am a little worried about food and being tired, but I think I will manage. And I don't care how ill I feel, I am getting some New York Cheesecake. :)
