Farmer Fun

Today we met Ingrid, Fintan, Mark and Omi at the Farmer's market in Studio City. It was fun to be out on the town and visit with our friends. Fintan is so big now, I can't believe how much he has grown in 4 months. It was so weird to hold a baby who could control his head and is so much bigger than my little sprout. Just a taste of what is to come in a few months I guess.

We got lots of fruit, strawberries, cherries, apricots and plutos which are a plum apricot hybrid that is so yummy. Aisling loves to be out and does so good. She did get hungry and antsy after being in her stroller for so long. We took her out and were so worried about her in the sun that both Brian and I got a little burned. Oh well at least her skin is perfect, aside from a case of cradle cap.

Tomorrow she is 8 weeks old and we are going out for a picnic to celebrate. She is growing and learning so much every day. She is now starting to amuse herself with her toys. All she can do is stare at them at this point, but she still smiles anyway. She likes her bath now and is still happiest laying on he changing table and kicking her legs in every direction. She is almost sleeping through the night now too, which makes Mommy and Daddy particularly happy. I can't wait to see what she learns next.

Another big day out

Today we met Kathy and Jake and had lunch at CPK and wandered around the mall for a few hours. It was a really fun outing. It is so nice to be out of the house and Aisling seems to like it too. She either sleeps or stares at all the lights passing by. As long as the stroller is moving she is happy. Jake who is now 5 months and his mom are great helpers in teaching me all the tricks of caring for a baby in the real world. I think we might even hang out with them again next week. I love being able to take her out now that she is a bit older.

Big day out

We enjoyed another new milestone today. Aisling went to her first sit down restaurant. She did pretty good too. We went to Red Robin with Brian and her Uncle Mike. She was pretty content to stare at the many bright lights and crazy pictures. It was pretty hard to eat my messy teriyaki chicken sandwich so I had to hand her off to Brian when he was done. We still need to work on the eating with one hand thing I guess.

We also discovered that she is a Canucks fan. Her Uncle Mike (who she just adores, by the way) had a hat with the Canucks logo on it and she would just stare at it and follow it wherever it went. I admire my daughter's fine taste in hockey teams. Mike was great with her too. They would play swing the baby in the car seat and he would make her smile like crazy. I couldn't get him to change a diaper though, guess I have to call Becca for that duty. It was a fun visit and really cool to see how well they got along.

Blow Out

Baby had her first visit to the beauty salon. Aisling came with me to get my hair chopped off. It has been too long for, well, too long and baby was grabbing handfuls of it. So today we got it cut and we are so much happier.

Mother's Day

I got to celebrate my first mother's day this past weekend. It is so weird to be getting cards and gifts. I am so used to being concerned about my own mother that it is kind of surreal to consider the day as mine too. Aisling (and Brian) got me an awesome camera. I am so excited to have my own digital camera. Now I can take pictures whenever she does something cute at any time.

It was a really nice day. We went to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Riverside. Aisling did great on the drive and was really mellow the whole day. She got to meet her cousins Gavin and Delianna. Gavin could really care less, he was more excited to see Brian. But Dilly couldn't wait to hold her and give her the bippy. She grabbed her little hand and was really attentive to her, we all cracked up though when she asked "Who bought her?" It was a great day all in all. My own mother was sick so we went to visit her afterwards to give her a dose of granddaughter medicine.

Last night was our anniversary as well. I can't believe it has been 2 years already. Grammy Sue came over and watched the baby while Brian and I went out to dinner and gorged on lots of non dairy goodies. It was pretty hard to pass on the dessert which of course would have been oozing chocolate and dairy. Ah well, next year. It was really great to get out for an hour or so, of course we couldn't stop talking about the baby.

Last but not least, I had my 6 week checkup with the midwives. I am clear to return to active duty which means I guess I have to start exercising and eating well again. Bummer......

Healthy Baby

Today we had an appointment with the Dr. to check how baby Aisling is doing. Everything is great. She is now 11 pounds 5 ounces and 21 3/4 inches tall. So obviously she is eating well and I now understand why she doesn't fit in her newborn stuff anymore. They say she looks perfect and healthy and to keep doing what we are doing.

Yesterday we went for a walk and made it to the top of the hill. We even stopped in the park so Aisling could look around a bit. It was really hot though, I haven't been out of the house much since baby was born and it appears that Summer snuck up on me. It was fun to get out and get my legs moving again. I am really out of shape and have a ways to go before I am back to wearing clothes without a ridiculous amount of elastic in them. Ah well,l baby steps I guess.

Mega blog 2006

It has been a while since I had to time to write the blog and lots of things have happened since then, First off Aisling is doing great. She is smiling lots now and is a much happier baby without the dairy. She had her first bottle this weekend. She took to it with no problem. Obviously she is my daughter as she just loves to eat. It was really cute to see Brian feed her too. Now I can pass off some of the feeding duties, a good nap is just a pump away.

We also got her in a baby bjorn which has been great. She usually conks right out and I can actually get things done, like check my email or use two hands to grab a pop tart or other quick and portable food.

It was Brian's birthday on Thursday as well. Aisling got all dressed up and we had a little lunch time party for him with Rhiannon, Michael and Nathan. We surprised him with a BBQ and now he can have fun cooking with fire. We also had a fun party on Saturday at Grammy Sue's house. She got to meet the rest of Brian's family. She did really well on the drive and with meeting the clan, inlcuding Carly who just sniffed her feet. It was really fun to share her with everyone.

Today we had a visit from Elkeer, Kathy and her baby Jake. It was so good to see all of them. Jake is adorable and looks just like his daddy. I hope the kids will get to be good friends as they grow up. There are sure a lot of cool new babies around. I love the fact that I have so many friends to share stories with and ask questions.

And last but not least, Aisling is enjoying her first Stanley Cup playoffs. She is a little confused and keeps rooting for the Kings and we have to keep explaining to her that they didn't make the playoffs. And now that Peter Forsberg's team was eliminated, I don't know what she will do. Brian is trying to teach her to say Go Ducks Go, so hopefully that will distract her from her losses. Seriously, we have been watching lots of hockey lately and although she doesn't quite get it yet, we are starting her indoctrination early.

Another food bites the dust

So this breastfeeding thing is kind of a pain. We discovered after a really miserable couple of days dealing with a screaming baby that I cannot eat any chocolate, milk or cheese. The poor little thing gets the worst gas bubbles from those foods. Trust me it isn't worth eating them if I have to endure hours of her agony. We had a pretty rough day yesterday. It was already sad cause Brian had to go back to work and then she did nothing but scream for the whole afternoon. So hasta la vista milk. Today was a much better dairy free day. Hopefully in a couple of months she will outgrow it and I can eat normal again. Geez I could eat more food when I was pregnant. I sure understand why women give up on the breastfeeding thing. It is really hard, but it is so good for her and I will suffer through it to give her the best start I can.

A positive from the no cheese thing is that I had to go to Trader Joe's today or starve. I managed to get the baby fed and into the car and out the door without either of us crying too much. She did really well. We did meet up with Daddy who watched her while I scoured TJ's for soy products. Overall it was a pretty successful 2nd day on my own.
